What to do with a Wedding Dress from 1957? A Client Story

Jennifer’s grandmother was married in 1957, wearing an ivory ballgown with an illusion neckline and sheer full-length lace sleeves. Like many gown from the time period, the dress featured a covered-button closure in the back.

After the wedding the happy couple kept the dress - most likely hoping future family would wear it again. However, as the years went by and styles changed, the wedding dress sat and waited.

After being married over 50 year, Jennifer's grandmother passed away - and the Jennifer inherited the classic dress. She wondered, "What can you do with a wedding dress from 1957?"

After learning about Unbox the Dress, Jennifer decided to make Guardian Angel Ornaments to give to eight members of her family - including her Grandpa. She hoped the angels would bring back happy memories of their loving marriage.

Jennifer said her experience working with our team was “Awesome!” She felt the process was easy as she ordered, shipped the dress, talked with us about what she wanted during her design call, and finally received her products back: “It honestly was great and the process was easy!”

Jennifer decided the best time to gift the angels to her family would be at Thanksgiving. She printed out a picture of her grandma in her wedding dress, wrote a handwritten note to each family member, and gave them the Guardian Angel Ornaments. The whole family was surprised and amazed that it was their grandmother’s dress! Even the guys loved it!

Jennifer's advice for others considering wedding dress redesign?  “Take a leap of faith!” She said to be completely honest with our team about the desired vision, and mention that the design call with our team helped her to feel confident in the plan. "It is totally worth it!" she said. "Super valuable, and unique."

Today, the wedding dress from 1957 has a new life! Jennifer’s grandpa has his wedding photo and the angel hanging on his wall, a daily reminder of his wife. Jennifer herself also displays her angel year-round in a shadow box in her office. If this story resonated with you, don’t wait more than 50 years to give your family wedding dress a new life!
